Tariffs, origin rules, product requirements and market information answer different questions. Research for exports or market entry becomes more useful when the product, destination and direction of trade are defined from the outset.
Which information do you need?
- Trading conditions: tariffs, origin and supporting evidence.
- Product requirements: labelling, approvals and competent authorities.
- Market information: trade data, sector developments and potential contacts.
Choose the relevant source
Access2Markets provides product and destination trade information. The Commission’s customs guidance explains EU–Mercosur origin procedures. ITC adds market analysis tools. National bodies such as Uruguay XXI, REDIEX and Invest Export Brasil provide starting points for local research.
Build a shared source register
- Record the question and original source.
- Add product, country, trading direction and date checked.
- Separate confirmed requirements from assumptions.
- Assign responsibility for resolving unanswered questions.
Make findings useful to the team
A short summary should explain what the information means for the upcoming decision. Sales may need market access information; operations may need delivery and evidence requirements. Both should be able to consult the same original reference.
Practical guidance
Check the reporting year, product category and trading direction. Guidance on exports from the EU does not automatically cover imports into it. Economic indicators provide context; validate demand for your own product separately.
